Don’t blame Theodore Roosevelt for killing this majestic beast. Before their population was decimated, the Giant Rhinoceros roamed Africa destroying farmland and small villages in great swathes. Declared an invasive species, Roosevelt and others hunted the beasts to extinction.

There are three known species of the Giant Eurasian Rhinoceros. The best known, E. sibiricum, was the size of a mammoth and is thought to have borne a large, thick horn on its forehead. If you look closely, you will notice that the Giant Eurasian Rhino looks strikingly similar to the sick triceratops from the film Jurassic Park. That is because Theodore Roosevelt took this picture while visiting the set of the film in 1992 at the behest of his good friend, Steven Spielberg.
